I just finished my first abstract painting.
Because abstract painting is the direction I want to pursue, you can imagine I am really excited 🙂
Here is what came out:
I worked with acrylic for this one, just because I am more used to work in acrylic for now, it dries faster and I wanted a mat feeling that I wouldn’t get with oils.
I used a 30×40 canvas.
I use Daler Rowney acrylics, which are ok, but, probably because they are pretty old(I have them for 1-2 years), they dry extra fast. If you are willing to spend a little more, Van Gogh are worth it 🙂
I had fun blending the colors and obtaining different nuances and shades of red, green, and blue.
These are the brushes I used here:
I used the third brush to spread the main colors on the canvas, because it’s wide: the blue, green, red, and pink. Then I used the forth brush and the knife pallets for spreading the blending nuances of light green and partially hide the main colors. The 2 small brushes I used to obtain the texture. The last brush was a pleasant surprise because it helped me to obtain the splatter patterns.
It took me about 3 hours to complete it.
The secret I discovered while working on this is that for the abstract paintings is important to obtain a balance, and to use lots of shades of the same color. It provides depth and texture.
What inspired me to choose these colors? A sunny Friday afternoon 🙂 I really loved how the green shades looked like under the May sunlight!
I love the colours you chose and how they interact with each other.
